GRANBURY, Texas (WFLA) — A volunteer fire department in Texas saved a 2-year-old's life on Sunday when a fire broke out at an apartment complex.
Video shared by the Granbury Volunteer Fire Department, located outside of Fort Worth, shows firefighters responding to the burning apartment in the 300 block of Parkwood at around 12:50 a.m.
Dispatchers told the fire crews that a 2-year-old child was trapped in a second-floor bedroom.
A firefighter is seen climbing a ladder to the second-story and smashing the window.
He then grabs the toddler, removes him from the building, and carries him down to safety.
According to NBC affiliate KXAS, the child's mother awoke from the sound of smashing glass. She was reportedly able to get her 4-year-old son to safety, but couldn't reach the 2-year-old.
“First responders are actual heroes. For real angels and heroes,” the mother told KXAS. “Even in the small town of Granbury, Texas the volunteer fire department – they were great. Every single one of them.”
The fire department said the child was placed in a medivac helicopter for advanced care in Fort Worth. The toddler's current condition is unknown at this time.
