PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. (WFLA) — A Disney Cruise Line ship rescued four people from a sinking catamaran about 265 miles offshore Bermuda on Saturday.
The Disney Treasure was on its way back to Port Canaveral from the Netherlands in a test run for the ship when they coordinated with the U.S. Coast Guard to help the stranded boaters.
According to the USCG, a call came in around 8:30 a.m. regarding a disabled 50-foot catamaran. The escape hatch blew a gasket, causing the boat to take on water.
In the video, the Treasure can be seen launching a lifeboat to rescue the boaters who were stranded.
The USCG put out a broadcast requesting assistance, and the Treasure was the closest ship to the boaters. The ship diverted to the boat at 11:40 a.m. on Saturday and saved the boaters between 1 p.m. and 1:45 p.m.
According to Disney Cruise Line, the ship will sail a seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean vacation that is expected to begin in December 2024.
