TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Flugtag soared to new heights at the Tampa Convention Center on Saturday.
Red Bull Flugtag rounded up 32 teams this year, each competing to launch their human-powered aircraft from a 27-foot platform into the Garrison Channel.
The judges scored each team based on creativity and design, the showmanship of their skit, and their total distance traveled.
“We put a lot of hard work in, in a short amount of time and I think it paid off,” team member Matthew Winch said.
After three hours, the top three teams were chosen, and the champions were declared.
- First place: Flug Shag, from Orlando (51 feet)
- Second place: Jet ICU, from Tampa (48 feet)
- Third place: Flying Spartans, from Tampa (45 feet)
- People's Choice: JoogSquad, from Indian Rocks
The first-place team will receive an experience at the 2025 Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix.
The Tampa Bay Lightning's goalie Andre Vasilevskiy and Buccaneer Hall of Famer Derrick Brooks were among the notable judges at Saturday's event.
