PHOENIX, Ariz. (WFLA) — A dramatic moment was captured on camera last month as police officers in Pheonix, Arizona rescued a man who was trapped inside a car submerged in a pool.
Bystanders reported seeing the car drive into a pool on the morning of Oct. 31, according to Phoenix Police.
When authorities arrived, the car was already completely underwater. An officer immediately jumped into the pool with a metal rod and began trying to open the vehicle's sunroof.
Body camera footage showed the moment the officer was able to bust through the sunroof and pull the trapped man out.
Other responding officers helped lift the man onto dry land and he was taken to a hospital.
The driver later told police he was sent into the pool after he accidentally stepped on the gas too hard.
“Thanks to the swift and courageous response of the officer, the man’s life was saved,” Phoenix Police said.
