TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) -- A gradual cooling trend starts today. Although temperatures will still be above average in the mid-80s, they will be below records this afternoon.
Clouds will increase throughout the day and there is a 10% chance for a quick stray shower. Winds will be quite gusty out of the east bringing in lower humidity that will settle in through tomorrow.
A stronger front is still on track to arrive Friday morning, possibly with a few showers. This will bring an even bigger drop in humidity and finally temperatures closer to average Friday and through the weekend. Highs will be near 80 degrees each afternoon and low temperatures will be in the upper 50s and low 60s both Saturday and Sunday morning.
Next week, what will become the next named storm of the hurricane season, could impact Florida. Invest 99L is likely to become a tropical depression in the next day or so and continue to strengthen through the end of the week. Forecast models are in good agreement with the storm meandering in the western Caribbean through Sunday before drifting north into the Gulf next week.
Confidence is growing in possible Florida impacts because most long-range forecasts have the storm moving in this direction but it is still too soon to say exactly where the storm will go and how strong it will be.
The strength will depend on how much land interaction it has with Central America and Mexico through Monday as it meanders in the Caribbean.
The timing of impacts looks to be next Wednesday, but that could change with it being more than a week away.
