TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The USF Bulls improved to 3-0 with victory at Stetson. The USF Men’s Tennis team earned a 5-2 win in their first road match of the spring season on Monday, Jan. 20.
One player who is set to make an impact for USF is Hugo Car.
Car transferred from Eastern Florida State College and started training with the Bulls in August 2024.
“It’s kind of new for me. The first two months were really new," Car said. "Now I feel like I’m home you know and that’s the most important thing."
He was ineligible the first three games, however, he is set to make a difference in his first match this week against the Miami Hurricanes.
Car was ranked the No. 1 JUCO player in the country in 2024 and won the 2024 JUCO National Championship in singles.
“What I did at my previous school when I arrived here. I have to start everything. Just because I won a national championship doesn’t mean I’m above everyone," Car said. "I’m the same as every team member, every 10 players."
“He plays very free, relaxed tennis, really aggressive tennis, which is not easy to do. There’s a lot of nerves out there,” said head coach Ashley Fisher.
