VERO BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — A pregnant 19-year-old and her grandmother were reportedly the two victims killed during a home invasion in Vero Beach, NBC affiliate WPTV reported.
At 3:47 a.m. on Sunday, the Indian River County Sheriff's Office received the 911 call and responded to the home, located in the 600 block of 23rd Place SW in the Highlands neighborhood.
"It's a heinous crime," the Sheriff said. "There's no doubt about that."
WPTV spoke to Charlie Baker, who said his mother, Amanda, and his daughter, Shelby Lynn, tragically lost their lives.
"My daughter was just 19. She hadn't even begun to truly experience life," Baker told WPTV. "She was pregnant with our granddaughter, Amina."
Deputies said they are conducting search warrants on the residents in the home, some of whom they said they are "very familiar with" and who may be involved.
"When I brought her first and second granddaughter into the world, she radiated happiness," Charlie told WPTV. “She was so close to meeting her great-grandbaby, but now, sadly, she won't."
The sheriff's office is continuing to investigate the homicide. WPTV said they have not confirmed the identity.
Anyone with information on the residents or from the overnight incident is asked to contact Detective Crawford with the sheriff's office at 772-569-6700 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 800-273-8477.
