ORLANDO, Fla. (WFLA) — Close to two years after an Orlando woman went missing, police said the woman's roommate has now been charged with her murder.
Gisselle Victoria-Gonzalez, 42, was taken into custody on charges for second-degree murder, tampering with evidence and grand theft, according to the Orlando Police Department.
Investigators said it was Victoria-Gonzalez who initially reported 42-year-old Runyleidy Medina-Pacheco missing on Dec. 27, 2022.
Officers received a call around 1:30 p.m. that day, in which Victoria-Gonzalez reportedly told them she had not seen her roommate since Christmas.
The two women had been living together at an apartment complex on Curry Ford Road.
As the investigation into Medina-Pacheco's disappearance continued, detectives said they discovered numerous inconsistencies in the version of events described by Victoria-Gonzalez.
After a search warrant was executed at their home, police said they found significant evidence indicating that a violent incident had occurred. However, no suspects were named at that time.
Multiple law enforcement agencies at the local, state and federal levels became involved as the investigation stretched on, with authorities later determining Victoria-Gonzalez had moved to Hartford, Connecticut.
An additional interview with Victoria-Gonzalez reportedly gave officials enough probable cause to charged her with Medina-Pacheco's murder.
Officials said they still have not located the missing woman's body.
