VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — An unusual animal was spotted hopping around Volusia County after it reportedly escaped its enclosure, according to NBC affiliate WESH.
The Volusia County Sheriff, Mike Chitwood, shared a post on Thursday, of a kangaroo roaming the streets in the town of Pierson.
"Just when you think you’ve seen it all. The Town of Pierson is hopping tonight," Chitwood wrote.
According to WESH, the kangaroo escaped after a bear entered its enclosure.

Neighbors said they spotted the marsupial a few times on Friday— hopping down the road, crossing an intersection, and even at the sheriff's youth camp, WESH reported.
"Never expected to see a kangaroo," one resident told WESH. "That's unbelievable."
However, the kangaroo is still missing.
A Florida Fish and Wildlife official searching for the jumpy creature believes the animal couldn't have gone far, since they are known to stay near their enclosures unless spooked.
"I've never seen anything like this out here," the resident added. "I've seen monkeys out there… but that's about it. This is the most extraordinary thing I've ever seen."
The FWC said that many wildlife species require a permit, in order to have them as a personal pet.
